Alright, you’ve decided to replace that old, shabby roof, and the start date is set. Before roof replacement work commences, your chosen Orange County Roofers will prepare the area for the rush of activity. Preparatory steps include setting down a tarp and a trash bin to manage debris. However, homeowners also must get ready for the roofers. There are several ways to do this … and get plenty of exercise all at the same time.

Your first step is to clear furniture, toys, and other property away from the perimeter of your house. Generally, about 10-15 feet of clearance is recommended. Why is this effort necessary? Well, for starters, roofing crews will access your roof from various points around your home. To do this, they’ll need a clear path at every point. If furniture or other property is blocking the way, they’ll have to move it themselves. And you know what that means. That’s right, more time on the job -- which by the way, will be accounted for in their bill for services rendered. If you’d rather avoid these very avoidable charges, by all means get out there and move the stuff away from your home. Or get somebody to do it for you. It will be well worth the effort.

A certain amount of clearing should be done in your gardens, as well. Remove statues, bird feeders, plants, and other garden goodies to a safe location, well away from the work activity. This step is a precautionary measure intended to protect garden property from falling objects such as shingles. Yes, no matter how careful your chosen Orange County Roofing Company, some debris invariably will drop from the work area. By relocating valuable property, you minimize the risk of damage.

Believe it or not, your driveway also must be ready for your Orange County Roofers. Therefore, make sure no vehicles are parked in or near the driveway. If your car or truck occupies this area, move it to the street. This step is necessary because driveways are the usual storage spots for trash bins and equipment, which ideally are conveniently close to the work area.

What about your garage? Why not store your favorite wheels in there while the roofers buzz around above? This generally isn’t a good idea. You see, as a rule, garage roofs aren’t insulated. Which means shingle granules easily could rain down into the garage – and onto your shiny vehicle -- as the crew pounds and tears. Remember, granules can do a good job of scratching paint when wiped away. So, it’s best to keep your wheels on the street.

Looking on all this preparation as drudgery? Don’t. Remember, it’ll give you plenty of invigorating exercise. In fact, there’s one more golden opportunity to stretch those muscles. You’ll do this by taking a walk to each of your nearest neighbors and telling them about the roof replacement. The revelation will include information about the start date, expected duration, and other pertinent data. By giving neighbors this advance notice, you’ll help them prepare for the inevitable noise and activity.
